We all completed the round today even though there was light rain for most of the morning.   The maintenance department has cored the 10th and 11th fairways.   That said, the back nine greens are getting close to very good again.

There were 6 Santiburi Members today including the newest Santiburi member — Steve. In addition there was one Friend — Jim who has a special surprise for us this Saturday.

For a change, our handicaps were adjusted and we played off the white tees.  5Points started well with 25 points in the first 9 holes.  He had four 4 pointers and managed to collect 8 skins after 12 holes — then the wheels fell off.   Leo went the opposite way with 9 points in the first 6 holes and then parred 9 of the last 12 holes winning the stableford with 40 points.

Closest to the pins — #3  Steve, #7 — Graham,  #12 — 5Points,  #17 — BruceG

We will be back off the blue tees on Saturday and then do the white tees again on Monday.

Santiburi Members and Friends meet every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.  Please be at the course by 8:15 AM.

A lot of threatening rain clouds but we had good luck and only got a few drops of rain.   Later in the day he actually became quite warm.   The back nine greens were being re-sanded but they weren’t that bad.

There were 6 Santiburi Members and 2 Friends (Steve and Jim).  Steve won the stableford with his best round ever with us — 100 from the blues tees.  BruceG walked away with the most money winning 8.5 skins for 345 baht.   Highlight of the day was Steve hitting his tee shot on the 7th to a couple of feet and making the birdie for 5 points.  It is also worth noting that both Graham and 5Points had “juppies” — They bounced their balls across the bridge on the 18th.

Closest to the pins — #3 — BruceG,  #7 — Steve,  #12 — Graham,  #17 — BruceG

Another warm day — a bit of a breeze early in the round but not later.   We played lift, clean and place on the front nine due to the coring and sanding of the fairways.   The back nine fairways are good but the greens are only tolerable as they need another 2 weeks or so before they are perfect again.

There were 6 Santiburi Members and a Thai tag-along, Khun Ghittee.  BruceG continued his fine play with a round of level par.  That means he is one under par over his last 36 holes.

Closest to the pins — #3 — BruceG,  #7 — BruceG,  #12 — Les,  #17 — BruceG

Today’s results:

The day at Santiburi started off with a light sprinkling of rain, which was enough to send Leo and Graham running for cover.  It is rumored they decided to go shopping in town for pink pussy hats, instead of playing golf.  That left French Marc, 5Points and Bruce G.  The three decided to play a 50-baht Nassau.

Bruce heated up fast enough to drive off the rain by the time the group reached the fourth hole, and the rest of the day was beautiful for golf.  The front nine fairways have been cored, with the 1st thru 5th holes nearly back to normal condition.  The 6th, 7th, and 8th holes are still in GUR status, and the 9th hole will probably be completed by the end of this week.  All 9 of the back nine greens have been cored and sanded, but they have recovered quickly and the effects are not very noticeable.

As stated, Bruce heated up fast, and he never looked back.  He birdied the first hole and shot Even Par 36 on the front, for 22 points and the first nine honors.  Never to be outdone, even by himself, he shot one under 35 on the back, for another 22 points, to win the back nine and the overall.

Another perfect day for golf.   Overcast but no real threat of rain.   Unfortunately it was “Maintenance Monday” at the course.   The 6th hole fairway was being cored and sanded. They are only doing one or two fairways every week so the first couple will be back to normal soon.   Greens #10 to #14 were also cored and sanded with the final 4 holes expected to be done before the end of the day.

There were 5 Santiburi Members and 2 Friends (John and Judy).

Closest to the pins — #3 — no one,  #7 — 5Points (39′),  #12 — 5Points (15′),  #17 — Graham (30′)

The stableford was won the the newbie John with his 38 points.  Leo was second with 37 points blowing it with blobs on the last 2 holes.  The big money winner on the strength of his par 3 performance was 5Points who had the lowest stableford score.

It was a hot, humid day with no wind.   The 5 fairways that had previously been cored and sanded are OK but need about another week or so to be considered good.   It is expected that they will do 2 or 3 more next week.

There were 5 Santiburi Members today including POS Leo who was very motivated by his new badge of honor and started with 6 pars on the first 8 holes for all 10 skins.  Fortunately for the others the POS bogeyed 9 of the last 10 holes — still it was good enough for 41 points on the day and the most money won.   BruceG was 2nd in the stableford (38 pts) and money won.

Closest to the pins —  #3 POS Leo (10′),  #7 — POS Leo (19′),  #12 — BruceG (4′),  #17 — BruceG (14′)

Three intrepid members: (5Points, Leo, and Les) trucked out to Waterford Valley to play, since Santiburi was having a tournament that closed the course.  The sky threatened rain, but other than a brief shower on the eighth green, the rain held off and it was a wonderfully cool, overcast day – perfect for golf.  Waterford was in good condition.

The three played the Six-Point game, where each player can win two points from every other player for each hole.  An outright win is worth two points and a tie is worth one.  With three players, there are six points awarded per hole.  They played a 50-baht Nassau.

5Points and Leo tied the front nine with 21 points each.  The match came down to the 18th hole.  5Points had 16 points, and Leo had 20.  5Points had to win the hole outright and see Leo come in third to tie the back nine and the match.  5Points did what he had to do, winning the hole outright, but Les’ winning putt fell off to the right, and Leo tied with Les.  The final scores were Leo 90  with 42 match points  (21+21); 5Points 100  with 41 match points (21 + 20); and Les 115  with 25 match points (12 + 13).  Leo won B225, 5Points lost B75, and Les lost B150.

Important Notice:   Santiburi is closed Wednesday and Thursday for a competition.   Santiburi Members and Friends won’t be meeting at Santiburi as usual on Thursday.  Our next day at Santiburi will be Saturday.   Please be at the course by 8:15 AM.

Due to the upcoming competition there were a lot of people on the course today playing a practice round.   We started on the 10th and played the back 9 in good time.  After completing the 18th, we went to the clubhouse for coffee/food as we were told we would have to wait about half an hour.  Once play got underway again the pace of play wasn’t that bad.

Closest to the pins:  #12 — Leo,  #17 — Leo,  #3 + #7 — no one.

Leo won the stableford again.  Les was 2nd and he won the most money — winning 5 skins on hole #2 certainly helped.

Completely off the golf topic but the following may be of interest.  Leo reports that he had front and rear cameras installed in both his cars 2 months ago.  These cameras are installed in the rear view mirror.  The cost is around 2400 baht for front and rear view or about 1800 baht for front view only.  The shop is about 100 yards from Patcharee’s Bar (on Sahamit directly opposite the trophy shop).  You should allow about 2 hours for installation.

Lift, clean and place was required on the first 5 fairways due to coring and sanding.  Other than that, the course was in very good shape.  The weather was perfect — cloudy but no real threat of rain.  There were 6 Santiburi Members today including long time course member “Nakashima” who didn’t partake in the skins game.

Closest to the pins  — #3 – Graham, #7 – no one, #12 — BruceG,  #17 — BruceG

The stableford and the most money was won by Leo.  BruceG was 2nd in the stableford.

It started out as a light mist, soon changed to a light rain, back to a mist, then clear for a while, then a light mist, and then absolutely perfect for the last few holes.   There had been heavy coring and sanding on the first two fairways, otherwise the course is still in very good shape.

Only 3 Santiburi Members made it out into the questionable weather.

Closest to the pins — #3  Leo (40′), #7 — no one,  #12 — Graham (38′) ,  #17 — all in the water.
